The Cheshire School of Glass welcomed a very special visitor this week when comedian and ceramic artist Johnny Vegas stopped by our Frodsham studio to try his hand at glass art.

Vegas, known for his comedy work as well as his serious pottery credentials (he holds a BA in Art and Ceramics and has work in the V&A Museum’s collection), spent time at our countryside studio learning all about glass art.

From Pottery to Glass

Jennifer Barker, who led the session, was impressed by how quickly Vegas adapted his pottery skills to glass work.

A Natural Transition

The connection between ceramics and glass art proved to be a natural one. Both crafts involve careful attention to temperature and timing

About His Artistic Return

Vegas has been reconnecting with his artistic roots in recent years, having returned to ceramics during the pandemic after decades focused on comedy. His recent solo exhibitions and collaborations have shown a serious commitment to his visual art practice.
