Practical Details
What should I wear?
Just comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dusty, and closed-toe shoes (nothing open like sandals or flip-flops). Avoid loose sleeves if possible, but we have elastic bands if needed.
What's included in the course price?
Everything you need – all glass, tools, kiln firing, safety equipment, tea and coffee throughout the day, and biscuits. You just need to bring yourself! The only extra would be if you want to make additional pieces beyond what’s included in the course.
Do I take my finished pieces home the same day?
For fusing courses, no – your pieces need to go in the kiln, so you can collect them when they’re ready (usually a week or so later) or we can post them to you but we really don’t recommend postage because glass is easily broken in the post. You can choose postage at your own risk, we charge a minimum of £8 (depending on the size of the piece) to cover postage cost & packaging.
For stained glass, copper foiling and other non-fusing courses, yes – you take them home at the end of the course.
What if I don't finish my piece?
Don’t worry, we build in enough time for everyone to complete their projects. Jennifer keeps an eye on everyone’s progress. If you’re a bit slower, that’s fine – we’d rather you do it properly than rush.
Is lunch provided?
We provide tea, coffee, and biscuits throughout the day, but not lunch. You’re welcome to bring sandwiches to eat in our comfy break area or outside if the weather’s nice, or there are plenty of nice pubs & cafes approx 1 mile away in the centre of Frodsham.
How do I find you?
Check out our Location page for full travel details. We’re pretty easy to find – just off the main road between Frodsham and Kingsley. We’re upstairs in the Barn at Bradley Farm Stables (look out for the horses 🙂 )
Our studio address is
Bradley Farm,
Bradley Lane,
Frodsham,
Cheshire WA6 7EP
Google Maps Link: https://share.google/Rs5h7PbS4m6ZmvNE9
There’s parking on the road right outside the barn and on the large grass verge just around the corner from the farm.
Booking etc
What if I need to cancel?
We understand things come up. If you cancel more than 2 weeks before the course, we’ll give you a full refund or move you to another date. Less than 2 weeks and we’ll try to fill your space – if we can, you get a refund minus a small admin fee.
Can I bring a friend who's not booked on the course?
Sorry, no – it’s not fair on the other students and we don’t have space for observers. But your friend is very welcome to book their own place! We often get people booking together.
About the Courses
Which course should I start with?
If you’re completely new to glass, the “Introduction to Glass Fusing” is perfect – it covers all the basics. If you’re particularly interested in traditional stained glass, you could start with that instead. Give Jennifer a call if you’re not sure – she’s happy to chat about what might suit you best.
Will I be able to continue learning after the course?
Absolutely! Many of our students come back for different courses or the same one again to practice.
How many pieces will I make?
It depends on the course, but typically 1-3 pieces. For the introduction course, you might make some small panels or a bowl. We’d rather you make fewer pieces well than rush through lots.
What size pieces will I make?
Most pieces are around 6-12 inches – big enough to be satisfying but manageable for beginners. The stained glass panels are typically about 12″ x 12″. Everything’s designed to be a good size for displaying at home.
Gift Vouchers & Special Occasions
Can I buy this as a gift for someone?
Yes! Gift vouchers are really popular – we do them for specific courses or any amount you choose. They’re valid for 12 months and the recipient can pick their own date. We can email the voucher to you or to your chosen recipient – you can select an option during checkout.
Can you accommodate a group booking for a special birthday/anniversary?
Probably! We can often arrange private group sessions for special occasions. Give us a call to discuss what you have in mind.
Do you offer corporate team-building sessions?
Yes, we do! Glass art makes a great team-building activity – it’s collaborative but not competitive, and everyone goes home with something unique. Please call Jen to discuss.
Weather & Seasonal
What happens if there's bad weather?
The studio is fully enclosed and heated, so weather doesn’t affect the courses at all. The only issue might be if snow makes the roads impassable, but that’s rare in Cheshire. We’d reschedule if necessary.
Is the barn warm enough in winter?
Yes, we have good heating and the kiln adds warmth too. Actually, some people prefer winter courses because it’s so cosy inside while it’s wild outside!
Do you run courses all year round?
Yes, though we do special seasonal courses like Christmas decorations in November and December. Summer courses are popular because you can sit outside for lunch, but there’s something lovely about glass work on a crisp winter day too.
Follow Up Questions
What if I love it and want to do more?
Brilliant! We have courses at different levels, and many students work their way through several. We also offer 1-2-1 tuition for those people looking for something really individual. Some people come back to repeat courses to practice, others try different techniques. A few have even set up their own studios at home.
Do you sell glass and tools for home use?
We do sell some, we can also advise on where to get supplies and what you’d need for basic home setup. For kiln work, you’d need quite a bit of equipment, but for stained glass, it’s much more manageable to do at home.
Can I visit the studio before booking?
Best to call first, but if we’re not running a course, Jennifer’s usually happy to show you around quickly. It helps some people feel more comfortable seeing the setup beforehand.
Safety & Experience
I've never worked with glass before - is it safe for complete beginners?
Absolutely! Most of our students have never touched glass before their first course. We start with the basics and provide all the proper tools. Jennifer shows you how to handle everything safely, you get plenty of individual attention. We’ve been teaching beginners for years without any problems.
Will I cut myself or get burned?
It’s very unlikely if you follow the techniques we teach you. We use proper glass-cutting tools (not broken glass!), and while the kiln gets hot, it’s not likely to be running during the class itself and you won’t be handling hot glass directly. Jennifer keeps a close eye on everyone, especially first-timers.
Do I need to be artistic or creative to join?
Not at all! We get people from all backgrounds – accountants, nurses, engineers, retired folks. You don’t need to be able to draw or have any artistic training. We provide templates and guides, and Jennifer helps with design ideas if you’re stuck. The techniques are what matter, and anyone can learn those.
I'm worried I'll be the only beginner in the class
You definitely won’t be! Even our “all levels” courses attract plenty of beginners. We often get people who’ve never done anything crafty before alongside those with a bit of experience. Everyone’s very supportive – it’s a really friendly atmosphere.
Age & Physical Requirements
Am I too old to start learning glass art? (I'm 65/70/75)
Definitely not! We regularly have students in their 70s and 80s who love it. Glass work isn’t physically demanding – it can be done sitting down, and the techniques don’t require strength. If you have any mobility concerns, just let us know and we can make sure you’re comfortable. Please note that there is a flight of stairs leading up to the studio.
Is there a minimum age for courses?
For most courses, we recommend 16+ as you’re working with glass and some tools. However, we do run family sessions occasionally where younger teens can join with a parent. Just give us a call to discuss what might work.
I have arthritis in my hands - will I still be able to participate?
Many of our students have arthritis and manage fine. The glass cutting tools are designed to be easy on the hands, and we can show you adapted techniques if needed. If you’re concerned, pop in for a quick chat beforehand and we can show you what’s involved. Please note that there is a flight of stairs leading up to the studio.
Do I need to stand up all day?
No, although many of our students to prefer to stand, but there is the option to use a tall stool to work at the shared workbench. You can take breaks whenever you need to and there is a comfortable seated area for these.
